Home Decor Ideas and Shopping Advice

A kitchen where delicious food is created, is a kitchen where the cook feels good about life. What things make you feel good about life? Bring those elements into your kitchen decor.

If romance inspires you to create gorgeous meals, then hang photos of your loved one on the kitchen wall, and train garlands of edible flowers to creep from your windowsill planter box, in through the window, and around it. Place candles around the kitchen, and use romantic lighting when you cook. Your cooking then becomes an offering of devotion, seduction, and admiration.

If your cooking is your connection to your heritage or your ancestors, decorate your kitchen with your ethnic art. Frame one of your favorite ancestral photos, and hang it on the wall.
You can also place old hand written recipes in layers to cover the kitchen table, and then cover that with a sheet of clear glass. This makes a rustically charming decor focal point, or a classically elegant one if you write the recipes in calligraphy. Your guests will ooh and ahh over this creative design.

If you want to cook healthful meals, hang a picture of yourself doing a realistic activity that can only be done with a strong healthy body (relative to your own circumstances), and a focused mind. If you have a family, hang photos of them showing off their health and strength too. For instance, a photo of your child proudly displaying a school assignment that earned a high grade, or flexing her/his biceps and smiling with white teeth, shows the rewards for eating healthful foods. Hang colorful charts depicting the ratio of proteins to carbohydrates that you need, and hang pretty pictures of beautiful organic fruits and vegetables. These will give you an appetite for what is good for you, instead of tempting you to eat junk food. Natural produce comes in all colors (even blue – for blueberries), so you can make a gorgeous rainbow on your wall.

When you design a room, first think about how you will stash everything up and out of your way. After you’ve figured out how much utility space you really need, you can then work on how to make it look attractive. Most people make the mistake of trying to figure out where they’ll put their stuff, only after they’ve decorated and become attached to an inflexible design. The function should dictate the form.

Your inspired decor theme will be visually lost if the room is drowning in clutter and the floors choked with objects. No one wants to bend over a zillion times to move things, so most people just avoid cleaning their floors when there is too much on them. Shelves, storage cabinets, and hanging baskets help you to keep things off the floor.

Everyone loves pillows, whether they are arranged in a row on a couch, or heaped on the floor in a pile, whether they are used one at a time, or layered and grouped, pillows are great decorations. Pillows can be stamped with fabric paint, quilted, appliqu?d, sewn with ruffles, printed with photographs, or beaded to make them really stand out.

Pillows come in all shapes and sizes. When combined, they are an art instillation in and of themselves. The benefit of this kind of art is that it is so comfortable for everyday use.  A heap of pillows is fun to jump into, sprawl out on, build forts with, offer to guests to make them more comfortable, support aching backs with, rest your head on, elevate your feet with, and of course, have a pillow fight with.

Many modern day artists work in fabric to create unique signature pillows. These don’t have to be extremely expensive, as they are often designed by the artist and then mass produced to lower costs. Some artists work with a certain style or theme that runs through their cushioned creations, so you can combine pillows that have different designs while retaining the same look and feel.

Pillows can have tassels, fringes, fur, laces, or buttons. The possibilities are virtually endless. That means you can use different elements to create a unified look without giving up on variety. Try a collection of pillows that share the same shape and fabric but come in a multitude of colors; or why not a mix of different pillows in pure white, showing off different textures and trimmings?

Don’t think just beds and couches either. Pillows come in all sizes. Some are large enough to be used as chairs or beds, while some are tiny and have pockets for teeth that the tooth faerie will come for. Play around and adds elements of luxury and comfort in various rooms.

This is a lovely decor idea. Take this 69 inch garland of soft fabric flowers on a soft fabric leafy vine, and drape it over a window frame or door frame; wind it around the back of a chair, or up the leg of a table. Get four and wind each one around the posts of a four poster bed. They are so affordable, you can buy as many as you like and do the whole room! The wonderful quality of cloth makes the decor immanently touchable and inviting. The greenery and symphony of colorful flowers are a wonderful way to bring the beauty of a country garden into your baby or child’s room. The joyful ambiance will sooth you, and the pallet of color will pop out at you as you enter the room.

Even if the room was previously painted all in white, it will look tastefully and plentifully decorated when you use these flower garlands. Try a green bamboo wood floor, or a green carpet to maintain the illusion of a mother nature taking over the room, and the vines will look right at home, as if they grew out of the “vegetation” on the floor.  Add a few fairies, or butterflies, and voila! An enchanted idyllic world welcomes your child.

This makes a great gift.

Here’s a great idea for city dwellers! If your nursery window faces something ugly, like the wall of a neighboring building, and you can’t really grow your own window box garden, because the weather or time won’t permit it, you can use these lovely wind flowers to create a beautiful colorful view that dances in the breezes and requires no care. The windflowers are made of plastic, so you won’t need to worry about the weather, and the rods will insert into a window box or any potted plant base. They remain erect and upright, so your precious little bundle of joy will always be able to see them when s/he looks at the window.

The colors are so cheerful and the shapes so delightful, that gazing at the wind flowers will encourage happy thoughts and sweet dreams.

Check out the rest of the HABA decor items for your baby’s room. They are gorgeous, and will easily match these wind flowers to create a unified decor theme for your nursery. Why not combine them with the Mia line bean bag and fabric wall shelf ? There are mobiles with the butterflies and mobiles with the blossoms, all done in soft cloth. Your baby’s room will be a delightful environment to grow in.

They thought of everything! HABA brings you the indoor swinging tent.

Kids like to hide and feel like they have their own space; they also like to swing, and to feel soothing motion when they rest. Here they have that all in one creative decor item. Lift the flap to crawl inside, and let the make believe begin! The soft fabric tent attaches to the ceiling with included hardware so that it can swing freely. Your child’s friends will all want to come over to play when they see this whimsical masterpiece.

The colors are beautiful and the designs lovely. Flower vines and butterflies adorn the tent in applique, and the green and blue back ground brings the grandeur of the natural world into your little tykes room.

The tent swing can support up to 80 pounds safely. It is recommended that parental supervision be used for children under age three, but from three on up, this will keep them busy and out of your hair.

For a complete and cohesive decor theme, add other items by Haba, like the bean bag chairs that match the design on the tent swing, or the fabric shelves, or the blossom and butterfly mobile.
