Home Decor Ideas and Shopping Advice

Look at this lovely fabric covered shelf–what a beautiful, eye catching focal piece for your little one’s room! The colors are lovely, and the design matches many other items made by HABA, in their Mia collection.

The shelf is sturdy due to stiff plastic backing, and it has loops for wall attachment. You’ll have a convenient place to put your diapers, ointment, and wipes. Just hang this shelf by your changing table, and it will always be within your reach. The dangling leaves are fun for your baby to watch flutter in the breeze, and the soft material is just the right color combo to make any room decor more cheerful.

Alternatively. you can put a couple of standing photo frames on either side of the flower, perfect for displaying photos of newborn twins.  Do you need a handy place to put the baby’s pacifier and bottle so that you don’t have to hunt for them? Hang this shelf on the wall next to the crib, and those things will always be in reach when you need them.

Since there are a few small parts, it is recommended that you keep this shelf out of your baby’s reach until s/he is three years old.

This German company has made a beautiful soft, colorful, decor item that’s sure to become the focal point for your nursery or child’s room decor.  The Butterflies’ wings are quilted applique, and free to actually flap when your toddler grabs them. What could be more fun to snuggle into and sit on, than this soft and whimsical bean bag?

Parents will appreciate furniture like this, because there is nothing hard or pointy to step on, run your shins into, or worry about your baby banging her/his head on. All furniture should feel this good, and be so easy to live with! When you want to clean under it, it is easy to lift and move. The bean bag is very light, as it is stuffed with polystyrene balls. In order to protect the environment, you can order the empty outer cover, and replace the inner sack with a stuffing that does no harm, like buck wheat hulls. The outer cover is removable and washable.

This bean bag looks great together with the mobile and other HABA decor items.

If you’ve got a need for open skies and beauty that uplifts you, these are the wall mural stickers for you. Even a tiny room that has been converted into a nursery or child’s room will never feel claustrophobic,  if you paint it a pale shade of sky blue, and add these wall decals. The realistic looking, lovely, fluffy clouds turn any space into a heaven of sweet dreams.

These dry rub transfer instant murals are easy to apply like a sticker, and they come complete with an applicator stick. The difference between these and other wall mural decals or cut outs, is that these are such high quality reproductions of original paintings, that it will look as though you painted them on the wall yourself. You can even see the original artist’s brush strokes, because the printing technology is so advanced.

They are also as thin as paint, so you can paint right over them if you ever decide to change the room decor.

The 10 instant mural clouds are different sizes which helps to create the illusion of distance. This is perfect for tricking the brain into believing that you have plenty of space around you, and can gaze off into the distance.

Add a mobile of airplanes, or birds, or balloons, and you have a delightful room decor theme.

Look how cute this lamp is! What could be better for your nursery or kid’s room? The elephant and frog are a fun base, complimented by the animals like the giraffe on the lamp shade. The perfect touch, however, is the monkey swinging from the pull chain that turns the light on and off. Not only is it easy to grab, its so cute and funny, that it becomes as much a part of the decor as the lighting itself.

The base is sturdy and stable, and the greens are reminiscent of jungle foliage. There is a 6 piece crib set that matches this lamp in a color pallet of greens decorated with the same jungle characters. Not to be confused with the 6 piece crib set in earth tones featured in the previous post, you can view the greener set when you click on the lamp for more details. The matching crib set is shown under items frequently bought together, at the bottom. Also, check out the crib mobile with the same characters, by NoJo.

The soothing greens add a serenity to your nursery, as if you had added several ferns and tropical trees, like potted banana trees, to the room decor.

A bit of green as a trim around the window, or as a stencil up where the walls meet the ceiling will tie the decor theme together nicely.

Here is an adorable nursery room decor theme to delight your baby. Elephants, monkeys, giraffes, turtles, zebras, tigers, and frogs smile and welcome your little one to the world in harmony that surrounds tiny bodies with safety and comfort. A color pallet dominated by earth tones is easy to match with wooden floors and furniture. The sky blue pastel accents are also helpful in creating decor continuity. For instance, using the same light blue color to paint the walls, or one of them, would be lovely and soothing for your new-comer. Like wise, the same pale blue in a trim would be enough to tie the room decor together, if you prefer to leave the walls them selves white.

This six piece set takes care of all the basics, including the window. You get a quilt measuring 33 inches by 42 inches. The quilt is polyester on the applique side and 100 % cotton on the side that touches your baby’s skin. The crib bumper is made the same way, with 100% cotton on the baby side, and polyester facing out for decoration. You also get a dust ruffle, a window valance, and a fitted crib sheet that fits a standard crib mattress with 100% cotton 200 count thread. The 6th piece is the diaper stacker–a handy feature indeed.

When you design your home decor, the most important thing is that it be a healthful home. This means no toxic emissions.  How do we create a home with no toxic emissions? It’s all about the materials we use. The largest surfaces areas of our homes are the walls and floors, so let’s start there.  Add the surface areas of our furniture, and you have an enormous exposure zone to toxins. This is because walls, floors, and furniture are usually painted or stained with substances that are quite toxic. There are however, safe alternatives. If paint is eco friendly, it is most often non-toxic, so look for green product certification such as Green Seal Standard (GS-11).

You know that outdoor air is polluted, but did you know that indoor air is three times more polluted than outdoor air? The EPA deemed indoor household air to be one of the top 5 hazards to human health. Conventional finishes and paints are among the leading causes, because they release low level toxic emissions into the air continuously, for years after their application.  Beware of any product containing ethylene glycol, formaldehyde, heavy metals, or methylene chloride.

A variety of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were essential to the performance of paint, until recently. Now the technology has improved, and non-toxic alternatives are available.
